i have sooo many music related memories with kacie it is endless. We always use to sing rap songs in a opera voice. Kacie introduced me to a lot of really cool music like Bright eyes, Cursive and Cat Power. A long time ago Larissa and I went with her to a Cat Power concert at the 9:30 club in D.C. Kacie was really excited but the singer Chan Marshall was so drunk that she could barely even sing. We were a little bit disappointed.
Kacie and I were suppose to go to a Radiohead concert on May 11, 2008. The concert was nothing but buckets of rain. I had to go to the car not even halfway through. She didn't miss anything. It was miserable.
Kacie and I also loved singing Karaoke together. We would sing karaoke at Golden sports bar, Lapalapas, sarafinos, and we even found a karaoke bar at Ocean city on our trip. We always sang the same songs together
Songs we sang as a duo during Karaoke"
1. Hello Goodbye - Beatles
2. Ruby Tuesday- the stones
3. Aint no Sunshine - Bill Withers
4. Shoop or Whatta Man- Salt N Peppa
5. Wanksta - 50 cent
6. Shadowboxer- Fiona Apple

Some of Kacies favorite albums:
1. Radiohead "Hail to the Thief"
2. anything Outkast
3. Beatles The white album
4. Bright Eyes "letting off the happiness"
5. anything wu tang
6. the grey album - a combo of jay z and the beatles
7. Cursive- The Ugly Organ
8. roxy music
9. The Angles
A LOT MORE

Some of Kacie's favorite songs:
1. sea of love- by cat power
2. diamond in the back - by Ludacris
3. baby blue sedan- by modest mouse
4. us- by regina spektor
5. love is all around - by the troggs
6. true love waits - radiohead
7. reservations - by wilco
8. tatted up - by d4L
9. The art teacher - by Rufus Wainright (she had a lyric from this song tattooed on lower back
10. Sitting on the dock of the Bay- by Otis Redding
There are tons more! Feel free to keep adding :)

Weezer, the Pinkerton album specifically...
That one good Gomez song: "Got my friends in my BMW, gonna get ourselves arrested"
Machavelli/TuPac: Hail Mary. (I remember a very particular night riding around with Kacie in her old Toyota, playing the song over and over so we could memorize the words, while Kacie whipped around the roads)
Built to Spill's "Car"... another good instance of Kacie's persistence... on the way to North Carolina for a Bright Eyes show in probably 2001 or 02, we spent close to 4 straight hours listening to and singing extremely loudly to that one song... We listened to it 3 times in a row in honor and screamed at the top of our lungs on the way to Baltimore in March.
I remember Kacie telling me about how she would just sit on CDnow.com and listen to the recommendations and buy tons of albums. She was always on top of things. She was the first person I knew who listened Cat Power and Mogwai so she'll always be associated with them... so hip that girl.
I also remember New Years Day 2005 when Sara and Kacie insisted on playing the art teacher song 2 hours from Charleston to Hilton Head...when they decided to get the tattoos... my hangover did not appreciate them much but Kacie still made it bearable and hilarious.
p.s. I love what everyone is doing here. Kacie would be so proud!

Wow, you did have alot a music memories with Kacie, Natalie. I remember she told me how you used to do karoke to the Beatles Hello, Goodbye. They were my favorite group so I got a such a kick out of the fact that she really started to like them. Did you say one of her fav songs was True Love Ways, Radiohead?

Good hearing your memories Jeanine. Youre right, when she liked a song she would play it over and over again. I remember driving her to gymnastics in MD a couple times a week, and she played a Weezer song over and over, don't remember the name, but it went something like... uuuu just like Buddy Holly... uuu and your Mary Tyler Moore. remember that one?

nancy the song is called "True Love Waits" not ways. Its a beautiful song. Kinda sad in a way though one of the quotes from the song is
"And true love waits
In haunted attics
And true love lives
On lollipops and crisps"

I have some great memories with kacie and music but I especially wanted to share what I took when I was in Baltimore. I snagged three of kacie's mix cd's and they have really helped me along the past couple of months. The songs are mostly depressing like a lot of the music she liked but there are some upbeat songs that really bring a smile to your face. Regardless, she had great taste in music and always put up a good argument leaving me feeling like a musical novice.

Here are the songs on a cd she titled "August 07"

1. Stevie Wonder "I never dreamed you'd leave in summer"
2. Regina Spektor "Prisoners"
3. Elliott Smith "Miss Misery"
4. Hayden "Nights like these"
5. (instrumental piano - no lyrics - not sure what it is)
6. Arcade Fire "Headlights look like diamonds"
7. Arcade Fire "In the backseat"
8. Mellowdrone "Pretty Boy"
9. Bright Eyes "The joy in forgetting/ the a joy in acceptance"
10. Radiohead "Videotape"
11. The Moldy Peaches "Steak for chicken"
12. Regina Spektor "Us"
13. Beirut "Mount Wroclai (idle days)"
14. Frank Sinatra "They can't take that away from me"
15. Hayden ?????
16. John Lennon "Oh my love"
17. The Smiths "Asleep"
18. The Supremes "You've really got a hold on me"
19. Violent Femmes "Add it up"
20. Bob Seger "We've got tonight"

I plan on burning copies for several people so just let me know if you want to burn you a copy and mail it to you.

Kacie and I would listen to music in her little apartment that she loved so much in Sykesville almost every night. So I have so many music memories of her that it is hard to just pick a few to share. But, one stands out in my mind as the most hilarious. Kacie and I were in the car driving around with one other, less amused passenger. As always, we were laughing and being ridiculous. It was a warm day and we of course had all the windows down in my car. We were listening to the best of Bill Withers and the song "Lovely Day". We decided it would be hilarious if we would just sing the chorus as loud as possible over and over and over again. The other person in the car looked terrified and thought, I am sure that we were going to crash. I still to this day find myself singing the chorus of that song as loud as possible for no reason at all.

I also have to say that I received the best gift ever from Kacie and it unfortunately didn't happen until she had passed. Kacie had made me a mixed c.d and it contains a lot of the songs listed on the one Jeff has. I didn't know anything about it until Jeff found it while going through her things. It had " I Love Gue" written on it and though it meant nothing to him at the time, he later realized it was meant for me. It was taken back to S.C with her parents and when I brought it up to Gary he miraculously found it right away in her huge C.D collection. I still cry when I hear some of the songs on it and find myself listening to it often. When Kacie and I first met, the first thing we talked about was Brighteyes, and from that moment we were soul-mates, and I truly believe that to this day.

Bright Eyes, A Song to Pass the Time

"But I wait for a letter that is coming to me.
She sends me pictures of the ocean in an envelope.
So there still is hope.
Yes, I can be healed."
